From your file to a reviewed draft
How to use the PDF translator
- 01
Check and choose the PDF
Try selecting a sentence in your PDF reader. If the text can be selected, choose the PDF here. Files must be 10 MB or smaller; scanned image-only pages need OCR first.
- 02
Review the extracted text
Pick the source and target languages and check the page-labeled preview. Tables and multi-column layouts can change reading order, so inspect the extraction before translating.
- 03
Download translated text
Compare the translation with the source preview, then copy it or download a UTF-8 TXT file. This tool does not rebuild a translated PDF or recreate its visual layout.
A PDF translator for understanding the text
A PDF report can be easy to share and difficult to read in another language. This page extracts selectable text so you can translate the contents without uploading the document to this website. It is useful for getting a first understanding of a research paper, product guide, exported report, or other text-based PDF when the wording matters more than reproducing the page design.
The result is a reading draft. The original PDF remains on your device and the download is a separate text file. Keep both files together when you review: the original provides visual context, charts, and page layout, while the translated TXT helps you follow the written content. Check any important conclusions or specialist terms with someone who understands the subject.
Selectable PDFs and scanned PDFs are different
Some PDFs contain text characters; others contain photographs or scans of pages. The second type needs optical character recognition before a translator can read it. This page does not include OCR. If selecting a paragraph only selects an image, create a searchable PDF with an OCR tool first, then check that the recognized text is accurate before using it here.
A PDF can also mix searchable pages and scanned pages. The preview only contains text that can be extracted. Compare it with the original document to make sure an image-only appendix or a photographed table has not been missed. Password-protected or restricted files may need an accessible copy created in your PDF application before they can be read.
Reading order and the TXT download
The preview labels extracted content by page and keeps pages in their original order. Within a page, a complex layout may not read like a simple paragraph. Two-column papers, sidebars, table cells, and repeated headers can interrupt sentences. Inspect the source preview before translation and refer back to the PDF when a translated passage seems confusing.
The download is UTF-8 text, not a translated PDF. Fonts, page backgrounds, images, exact table geometry, and print layout are not reconstructed. If you own an editable Word version of the same document, the Word translator may be a better starting point because it can return a DOCX container instead of plain text.
Browser requirements and privacy
File reading and translation run locally. Choose from the nine languages in the selectors; the available pairs depend on Chrome’s Translator API. A compatible desktop version of Chrome is required, and its first use of a language pair may trigger a language-pack download. There is no registration, app installer, or file upload step on this page.

PDF translation FAQ
Can I translate a scanned PDF?
Not directly. This PDF translator reads selectable text and does not include OCR. Create a searchable PDF first and check the recognized text before translating.
Will I download a translated PDF?
No. PDF translations download as UTF-8 TXT. The preview preserves page order, but the tool does not reconstruct PDF layout, fonts, or images.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The file is parsed in your browser and supported translation uses Chrome's on-device model. Chrome may download a language pack, but this website does not upload your PDF.
Which PDF files work best?
Text-based PDFs with a straightforward reading order work best. The limit is 10 MB. Check extraction carefully for multi-column pages, tables, mixed scanned pages, or restricted files.
Can I use it without an account?
Yes. No registration or payment is required. Translation does require compatible desktop Chrome and a supported on-device language pair.
