How to use the Word translator
- 01
Open a DOCX copy
Choose a Word DOCX file up to 10 MB. If you have an older DOC or an RTF document, save a DOCX copy in your word processor before selecting it here.
- 02
Translate the paragraphs
Choose the document's source language and the target language. Check the extracted paragraph order, then start translation using compatible desktop Chrome's on-device model.
- 03
Review in Word
Compare the text in the preview and download the translated DOCX. Open it in your word processor to check line breaks, tables, page flow, and terminology before sharing.
An editable translation of your Word document
A Word document often needs more than a translation you can copy from a text box. You may want to keep editing a report, reuse a letter template, or send a draft to a bilingual colleague. This Word document translator opens DOCX files and returns a DOCX copy so the translated text stays inside an editable document container.
Reading and translation happen in your browser. You can compare the source paragraphs with the translated draft before saving the file. Your original document is not overwritten, so it is easy to return to the source if a term, heading, or sentence needs closer review. Keep that original available while you make final edits in Word or another DOCX-compatible application.
What happens to document formatting
The translator retains the DOCX package and replaces text in supported paragraphs, including paragraphs in tables, headers, and footers. Paragraph order and document structure remain available, along with the original resources inside the file. This is useful for a structured first draft, especially when compared with recreating the whole document from plain text.
Formatting inside a paragraph can be simplified because a translated sentence does not map neatly onto the original text runs. The first text style is kept where possible, but mixed bold, italics, hyperlinks, or other inline choices may need review. Longer translated sentences can change line wraps, table heights, and page breaks. Check the downloaded file visually before treating it as a finished document.
Prepare the source for a clearer draft
Use a clean DOCX copy with readable text. Text embedded in an image is not extracted or translated, and scanned pages placed inside a Word file still need OCR elsewhere. If your source contains several languages, select the main source language and examine passages in the other languages with extra care. Abbreviations, internal product names, and specialized terms may need manual correction.
The tool accepts DOCX rather than older DOC, macro-enabled DOCM, or password-encrypted documents. You can use Save As in your existing word processor to prepare a supported copy. Before translating a long report, check that its paragraphs, table text, and headers appear as expected in the preview. That check helps distinguish an extraction issue from a translation issue.
Local translation with a browser requirement
Choose from English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. Translation requires compatible desktop Chrome with an available Translator API language pair. Chrome may download the language model the first time you use it; after that, supported translation runs on your device. This website does not send the DOCX to a file server, and there is no account or payment step.

Word translation FAQ
Will the translated document still be a Word file?
Yes. DOCX input downloads as DOCX with translated text in the document container. Open the result in Word or another DOCX-compatible editor to review it.
Does the Word translator preserve all formatting?
It retains the document package and paragraph structure where possible. Inline formatting can be simplified and translated text can change page flow, so exact visual formatting is not guaranteed.
Can I translate an old DOC file?
Convert it to DOCX using Save As in your word processor first. This page accepts DOCX files up to 10 MB, not legacy DOC, DOCM, or encrypted Word documents.
Are tables, headers, and footers included?
Readable paragraphs in tables, headers, and footers are included where supported by the DOCX structure. Check their source preview and the downloaded layout. Text inside images is not translated.
Do I need Microsoft Word installed to translate?
No. Translation runs on this page in compatible desktop Chrome. You will need a DOCX-compatible editor or viewer if you want to inspect or edit the downloaded Word document.
